During EAA AirVenture 2010 the fruits of these labors will be in the North Aircraft Display area, Booth 619. Even better, some lucky donor could win the airplane next year.

The promotion is part of the Community Network Foundation’s “Connecting With the Future of Aviation ” sweepstakes and is open only to legal U.S. residents (excluding New York and Rhode Island) 18 years and older as of March 27, 2010. The airplane will be awarded to the lucky winner of a random drawing on or about April 15, 2011.

Suggested donations start at $20 for one chance to win the aircraft, or $50 for three. Complete rules and alternate methods of entering the drawing are available on the Explorer Post’s website, www.AE491.org.

Aviation Explorer Post 491, like related local and regional groups, is composed of a group of young people exploring different careers in aviation. In their spare time, these youth benefit from a variety of programs designed to help them learn about careers in piloting, mechanics, and aerospace engineering.

This project has been led by industry professionals serving as mentors in each category of aircraft construction (from welding, aircraft covering, avionics, sheet-metal fabrication, and upholstery, to name a few).

The aircraft will tour other air shows later this year to promote youth programs in aviation and to raise awareness for the project Founded in 1981 by legendary designer Walter Extra, the Extra family of aircraft is celebrating its 30th year.
