Caught on camera... massive gust hits jet as it comes in to land
This is the terrifying moment a passenger plane comes within inches of disaster as a gust of wind tilts its wing towards the runway.
Plane spotter Paulo Santos has travelled the world photographing every kind of aircraft.
But nothing prepared him as he snapped this near-horror as the pilots of an A310 battled with nature to gain control of the jet.
The plane was caught in strong crosswinds as it touched down in Lajes in the Azores.
Thankfully all 140 passengers on board the SATA International internal flight from Lisbon were able to walk away unhurt.
Mr Santos said: “I saw the aeroplane do some crazy manoeuvres until it got close to the ground. Then they caught some huge wind. The pilots struggled to keep the aircraft in one piece and finally managed to land it safely.”
The incident came at a typically windy time for the islands which are in the mid-Atlantic.
