About South Dakota State University
South Dakota State University offers a four-year Bachelor of Science aviation program with aviation education and aviation maintenance management specializations.
The aviation education sequence provides FAA Part 141 training for Private Pilot, Instrument, Commercial single-engine, Commercial multiengine, CFI, CFII and multiengine instructor credentials. Flight students train at Brookings Regional Airport in Cessna 172 Skyhawks, Piper Seminoles, a Citabria and Frasca advanced aviation training devices.
The aviation education specialization is accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International, and the FAA authorizes qualifying graduates for the 1,000-hour restricted-privileges ATP pathway. Flight training is integrated into the degree curriculum rather than offered as a stand-alone public flight school.
