About Philadelphia Glider Council
Philadelphia Glider Council is a nonprofit, membership-based flight school that owns and operates Philadelphia Gliderport in Bucks County.
Volunteer FAA flight instructors teach students from first flight and solo through the Private Pilot glider certificate, advanced cross-country skills, the Commercial glider certificate and CFI-G. The curriculum also supports powered-aircraft pilots adding a glider rating, and a winter ground school covers aerodynamics, weather, navigation, airspace, flight planning and decision-making.
Members train in a fleet of two-seat Grob 103 sailplanes before moving into single-seat and higher-performance gliders. Member instruction and use of club sailplanes are included with membership, while launches are provided by the club's tow-plane operation. The council also offers aeronautical orientation flights and youth soaring support.
