Soaring Society of Boulder

Description

Soaring Society of Boulder is a volunteer-operated glider club based on the north side of Boulder Municipal Airport.

The club provides its members with sailplanes, aerotows and instruction. New pilots can begin primary training and progress through solo to a Private Pilot certificate with a glider rating, while powered-aircraft pilots can train for an add-on glider rating. Licensed pilots use club aircraft and work with instructors on local procedures and continuing soaring proficiency.

Founded in 1959, the organization has more than 170 members ranging from new students to instructors and international competition pilots. It operates primarily on weekends and selected weekday afternoons and uses a membership model rather than a commercial flight-school model.
