About Southern California Soaring Academy
Southern California Soaring Academy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit glider school at Crystal Airport in Llano, on the high-desert side of the San Gabriel Mountains.
The academy provides primary instruction through solo and pilot certification, add-on glider ratings and advanced soaring and mountain-flying training. An FAA designated pilot examiner conducts checkrides at the field. Rated pilots can arrange checkouts for rental gliders, and the operation also provides aerotows, educational rides and aircraft storage.
Founded in 2009, the academy supports wounded-veteran soaring programs and aviation and STEM outreach for young people and educators alongside its year-round flight-school operation.
