About Stephen F. Austin State University
Stephen F. Austin State University offers a 120-credit Bachelor of Science in Aviation with Professional Pilot and Aviation Management concentrations.
Professional Pilot students combine university coursework with flight laboratories delivered in partnership with HCH Aviation at A.L. Mangham Jr. Regional Airport. The four-year sequence covers Private Pilot, Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot, multi-engine and CFI qualifications, and students begin flight labs during their first semester.
The program uses modern aircraft including Tecnam P-Mentors and holds FAA authorization for qualifying Professional Pilot graduates to pursue a 1,000-hour Restricted ATP pathway. The Department of Earth and Aviation Sciences administers the current degree.
