South East Technological University – Carlow, formerly Institute of Technology Carlow, houses the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at its Kilkenny Road campus. Its three-year BSc in Pilot Studies combines first-year aerospace engineering and management study in Carlow with ATPL theory and flight training during years two and three at an EASA-approved training organization.

The university also offers Aircraft Systems and Aerospace Engineering degrees, a master's program in Flight Test Engineering and a technical aircraft-management certificate for aviation-maintenance professionals. Teaching facilities include an aircraft hangar, avionics laboratory and mechanical workshops. Because the university's flying is delivered through a partner training organization rather than at Maganey Airstrip, the incorrect local-airport assignment has been removed.
