Aviation Scholarships for Flight Training

There are a lot of aviation scholarships for flight training available to people that reside in the United States.  Scholarships are a form of free financial aid for people to further their education.  The great thing about scholarships is that you don’t have to pay them back.  It’s just like receiving a gift from someone. 

Most scholarships have certain requirements that are set by the donor that have to be meet prior to you becoming eligible to be awarded that scholarship.  Most aviation scholarships are free to apply but some do charge a small registration fee. 

 You need to make sure that you read each scholarship application thoroughly to make sure that you are eligible for that particular scholarship. 

The AOPA Flight Training Scholarship

 $2,500 to $5,000 towards your flight training.

In 2016 the AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) awarded scholarship to 15 candidates ranging from $2,500 to $12,000.  This year AOPA is giving away numerous flight training scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $5,000.  Unfortunately, the applications for the 2017 scholarship cycle are currently closed.  The 2018 application cycle will be announced on the AOPA website so keep checking the link above. 

EAA Flight Training Scholarships 

$7,500 to $13,200 towards your flight training.

The EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) has various flight training scholarships that open and close throughout the year. 

  • Phillips 66 Flight Training Award – One person will be awarded a flight training scholarship in the amount of $13,200 – Available to US or Canadian Citizens
  • Richard R. Harper Flight Training Award – Two people will be awarded a flight training scholarship in the amount of $7,500.
  • Tinker Murdock Family Flight Training Award – One Person will be awarded up to $7,500
